Wikipedic Benedict, from the Latin for blessed, is the name of many notable men. The most prominent at the beginning of the 21st century is Pope Benedict XVI, who chose this name for himself after his election to the papacy. In history the most renowned is Saint Benedict of Nursia/Italy (fl. 6th century), the founder of western monasticism, who wrote a Rule for monastic living for the monastery he had founded at Monte Cassino that was subsequently adopted by monastic communities throughout the continent and beyond, and today continues to be followed in the communities of the Benedictine Order worldwide. The second, Jean Carrier, became antipope ca. 1430 and apparently left office, whether by death or resignation, by 1437. (references)

Benedict (crater) Benedict is a small, bowl-shaped crater that lies on the floor of the Mendeleev walled-basin. It is located near the lunar equator on the far side of the Moon from the Earth. This crater is circular in shape, with little appearance of wear. At the mid-point of the sloping inner walls is a small central floor. The higher albedo of the inner walls, compared to the surrounding terrain, indicates that this is a relatively young formation. (references)

Benedict Allen Benedict Allen (born 1960) is a British explorer. He is best known for his survival modus operandi - tapping into local, indigenous knowledge above reliance on modern inventions. His approach is to present himself as ready to learn, like a infant - the communities that he visits take him under their wing, equipping him with the necessary skills. It is not always the adults but sometimes the children that ‘adopt’ and teach him. Allen prefers to travel alone and, within exploration, spearheaded the video diary documentary format for filming his solo journeys. (references)
Benedict Anderson Benedict Anderson is a professor emeritus of International Studies at Cornell University, who is best known for his work titled Imagined Communities, in which he systematically describes the major factors contributing to the emergence of nationalism in the world during the past three centuries. He argues that the main causes of nationalism and the creation of an imagined community are the reduction of privileged access to particular script languages (e.g. Latin), the movement to abolish the ideas of divine rule and monarchy, as well as the emergence of printing press capitalism. Benedict Arnold Benedict Arnold (January 14, 1741 — June 14, 1801) is America's most notorious traitor. A general in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, he defected to the British side when he became disaffected due to perceived grievances he had suffered at the hands of the Continental Congress and the military. Corruption charges filed against him by Pennsylvania civil authorities and his mounting debts also contributed to his decision to switch sides. He strongly opposed and was very indignant at the decision by the Continental Congress to form an alliance with France, having experienced a bitter defeat at the hands of the French and their Indian allies during the French and Indian War.
